You can't beat the taste and health
benefits of a freshly
picked vegetable! Supermarket produce is generally not ripe or over
ripe and neither is appealing. Here in the Northeast we crave
the tastes of all that our home gardens can seasonally produce. Winter is rough
and we are presented with hard tomatoes, wrinkly green beans and rotten
squash all the time in those markets. The produce managers must have tough choices if
this is the best they can do. Most of it isn't even grown in the
U.S.A. and is loaded with the unknown factor.
So throughout Spring and Summer we
enthusiastically plant our favorites and dine like royalty until the first
frost. We can, jar and freeze our vegetable garden yields as much as
