NO HOMESTEAD SHOULD BE WITHOUT
BRUCE'S ORGANIC COMFREY!

Comfrey, Symphytum officinale, is a medicinal herb.  Comfrey salves, ointments and teas are best known for the topical treatment of burns, skin ulcerations, abrasions, lacerations, flea and insect bites, and just about any skin irritation.  A poultice, salve or infusion of the leaves can be applied to bruises, fractures, sprains, and other closed-tissue injuries.  Comfrey is an anti-inflammatory – it lessens inflammation caused by bruising or trauma, or from infection.

Well known and widely used by early herbalists, science now confirms the healing effects of comfrey are attributable to allantoin, a compound shown to speed cell production both inside and outside the body. Comfrey works so fast that many herbalists will add antibacterial herbs such as goldenseal or thyme to comfrey salves to prevent sealing bacteria inside a fast healing wound.  It has also been used to alleviate pain.

Comfrey is one of the best healing herbs of all times.  Its very name, symphytum, means "to heal".  Comfrey has been used for centuries for its bone mending qualities, for its healing effects on ulcers, and for its soothing effect on the mucous membranes, making it invaluable in soothing sore throats and coughs.

COMFREY PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

Comfrey Grows In Hardiness Zones 4- 9

Plant comfrey in full sun to partial shade throughout the growing season.

Sow comfrey plants at a depth of 2 to 8 inches, depending on how heavy the soil is.  Plant deeply in light soil.  Space comfrey plants 12 to 15 from each other.  Arrange plants in rows 3 feet apart.  Do not plant comfrey close to smaller herbs.  Comfrey grows to 24"-36" high.

Enrich the soil regularly with compost or manure. Water as needed during dry periods.

Cut leaves regularly from the base.  This will stop flowering and allow the plant to put more energy into producing leaves.
