| The first decorated Christmas trees appeared in America during the mid nineteenth century when German and English immigrants placed their heirloom ornaments on branches of trees in their homes.
By the late 1800's F.W. Woolworth stocked his stores with German hand-cast lead and hand-blown glass decorations and sold them for
nickels and dimes, adding up to $25 million worth of imported Christmas ornaments
sold in 1890! Christmas ornaments depicting Santa Claus, winter scenes, snowmen, fruit, religious icons and animals have remained popular, even the German tradition of a Christmas pickle is still the same today, the first person to spot the pickle ornament receives an extra present. Christmas tree ornaments today are crafted in glass, ceramic, crystal, organic materials , gold, pewter & silver, still in the old world traditional, ornaments as Christmas birds and animals, Christmas figures, Santa, bells, stars, angels, pinecones, fruit, snowflakes and fruits.
