2009 Christmas Decoration Shop |
| Decorations became associated with Christmas more than five centuries ago. Pagans brought boughs into their huts to keep the spirits happy until their release in the spring. It wasn't until the 16th and 17th century that figures became ornamental. The leftover wax from making honey was pressed into carved molds, those molded figures were painted and decorated with ribbons for hanging and were given as souvenirs at Christmas fairs. Glass ornaments were first made in the nineteenth century in Germany along with wooden angels and garlands, festive holiday decor was accompanied by candles and the tradition of decorating at Christmas was established. Today we decorate with lights on trees and garlands around doors, on mantels and in the home. Lighted snowmen, Santa, angels, toy soldiers, tabletop tree and snowflakes are displayed indoors and outdoors to celebrate the Christmas holiday. |
